The pearl of the ocean

The Australian South Sea Cultured Pearl is the most revered and highly prized pearl in the world, cultured in the Pinctada maxima oyster from the pristine coastal waters of North West Australia. The perfect marine environment and the most modern pearling techniques combine to produce the largest and finest quality pearls. Each pearl is the result of two years of careful attention and care by Willie Creek Pearls pearling technicians and Pearling Master to produce a jewel with a stunning natural lustre, unequalled by any others in the world.

Behind the pearl scenes

Willie Creek Pearls offers a range of unique experiences across Perth and Broome. In Broome, the Willie Creek Pearl Farm Tour is one of the mostly highly awarded tours in Western Australia and gives guests the chance to discover the pearl of Western Australia in its home, surrounded by the magnificent colours of the Kimberley. This tour includes a cruise on the turquoise waters of the creek and the option to take a private helicopter to and from the pearl farm to view the stunning coastline and surrounds from above. A delicious lunch can also be included, with the seafood platter including pearl meat, which sells for $150 a kilo in Australia and up to $500 a kilo overseas.

If you want to learn more about Broome’s pearling history, make sure you visit the Pearl Luggers museum. Be captivated by 150 years of history as you discover how the unique maritime and pearling history unfolded among the mangroves on the foreshore of Dampier Creek. Guests have the opportunity to see, touch and hold some of the valuable collections and rare pearling, diving and mother of pearl artefacts while travelling back in time to an era of courageous men who lived a life of danger, fortune and adventure both on and under the water.

If you don’t have a chance to make it to the pearl capital of Australia, Willie Creek Pearls has luxury pearl experiences available right in the heart of Perth. The flagship Elizabeth Quay Showroom, located in the heart of the city on the banks of the beautiful Swan River, offers the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to Harvest Your Own Pearl to keep forever. This private tour is available seven days a week by appointment and includes sparkling wine from the famous Margaret River wine region, exclusive pearl meat hors d’oeuvres, a pearl discovery presentation including rare archival footage, the unique experience of harvesting your own pearl from a Broome Pinctada maxima oyster and a personalised shopping experience in one of Western Australia’s largest and most exquisite pearl jewellery collections. Your harvested pearl will be graded according to the five virtues of a pearl: colour, shape, size, complexion and lustre – and could be valued from between $500 up to $5,000. After the harvest, if you want to set your pearl into a beautiful jewellery design, you will have the opportunity to discuss your tastes with an experienced jeweller.

Willie Creek Pearls Elizabeth Quay also offers a Pearl Master Class experience to gain exclusive insight into the mysterious world of pearling, including sparkling wine and pearl meat hor d’oeuvres, and a 30-minute Live Pearl Harvest experience to discover the secret life of the most precious pearls in the world.
