A World of Style comes to The Finery by Mirvac, Sydney
International designer trends were brought back home to the inner-city suburb of Waterloo at Mirvac’s World of Style event. Signature Luxury Travel & Style’s Nicola McClean was lucky enough to get a first look inside the luxe display apartments at the October 2018 launch.
The Finery by Mirvac makes a bold fashion statement in the evolving food and arts hub of Waterloo, conveniently located 3.7 kilometres from the Sydney CBD and four kilometres from the domestic airport. Standing out from its surroundings, The Finery’s façade of white tiles, lattice-like brise soleil screens and black window frames gives a nod to the suburb’s industrial past. Inside, an atmosphere of international charm has been created by some of Sydney’s leading stylists and design houses.
Mirvac’s General Manager of Design, Marketing & Sales, Diana Sarcasmo, says that by dipping into different cultures from around the globe, The Finery shows how easy it is to bring your own personal space to life. “What is really exciting is [seeing] the emergence of modern design that marries influences from many difference places, a consequence of global travel being cheaper and easier than ever, and the internet and social media increasing our exposure to design trends from all around the world,” she explained.
The world of style
Mirvac has named this design showcase the World of Style. Our aesthetic journey begins in Los Angeles. Styled by Bowerbird Interiors, the one-bedroom apartment overlooks palm trees lining Gadigal Avenue that transports guests straight to Venice Beach. The linen sofa and sunset-inspired dining chairs give off a feeling of effortless chic, while the smaller details – such as fluffy pink slippers, Tom Ford tome on the coffee table and framed photographs of The Beverly Hills Hotel and Chateau Marmont – add a touch of Hollywood glamour.
Leaving LA with margarita in hand, we continue on to London. Greeted by Amy Winehouse on the sound system, the Jo Malone-scented one-bedroom apartment is an eccentric, pared-back take on traditional British design. Styled by Belle Bespoke Interiors, raw and natural furnishings such as leather, timber, marble and steel reflect Waterloo’s industrial heritage, while the hero of the apartment – the Aviator Tomcat chair, complete with Union Jack cushion – gives a nod to genius British furniture designer Timothy Oulton.
Continuing our World of Style journey, arias from La Traviata and La Bohème hum deep in the chest as we open the door to the Camerich-designed three-bedroom apartment. Inspired by the fashion and design capital of the world, the contemporary Milan apartment has clean lines, crisp fabrics, Italian Carrara marble and sleek timber cabinetry. The kitchen island bench with feature mesh panelling is perfect for pouring a glass of vino rosso and serving up antipasti for friends, or a family feast.
The final stop is Hong Kong. A dramatic Dina Broadhurst artwork greets us upon entering, making a bold statement reminiscent of Hong Kong’s adoration of high fashion. Geometry, metallics and crystals all come together in a sophisticated and feminine space. Blue accents are woven throughout the spacious three-bedroom apartment to create calmness and serenity, complemented by green tea and a selection of custard tarts and tapioca pudding.
The 223 apartments and terrace homes are part of a collection of six buildings and a courtyard garden, adding tranquillity to the inner-city suburb.
Prices for the World of Style apartments at The Finery by Mirvac start from $695,000.
