The Dalmore has been producing world-renowned whisky from the shores of Scotland for more than 180 years, and was instrumental in establishing single malt scotch as a luxury investment.
The 21st century saw single malt scotch solidify its status as a luxury investment, a development Scotland’s Dalmore distillery has been instrumental in realising. Dating back to 1839 when merchant Alexander Matheson founded the business to create a sensational single malt whisky, The Dalmore was taken over by Clan Mackenzie in 1867 who chose to adorn the amber treasure with a 12-point Royal Stag. The emblem was bestowed upon Colin of Kintail, the first chieftain of Clan Mackenzie, after he saved the life of King Alexander III of Scotland from the fury of a charging stag, a royal history dating back to 1263.
For more than 180 years, The Dalmore has been producing multi-cask-matured whiskies with depth and elegant polish from the shores of Cromarty Firth. Using hand-selected casks from the world’s finest bodegas, the distillery specialises in crafting sumptuous and layered whisky. A distillery of both history and legend, the highland producer has become one of the world’s most respected makers. The Dalmore is also currently involved in a unique three-part series of rare and limited edition single malts created by luminaries from the world of whisky and architectural design, a partnership forged with Scotland’s design museum, V&A Dundee.
The Luminary Series
Luminary No.1 2022 edition from The Luminary Series was Co-conceived by globally-acclaimed architect Kengo Kuma, designer of V&A Dundee and his protégé Maurizio Mucciola, in hand with Master Distiller, Richard Paterson OBE and Master Whisky Maker, Gregg Glass. Together they have created two very special single malts, The Rare and The Collectible – two products worthy of any discerning collection. There are only three bottles of The Rare, a 48-year-old single malt, while The Collectible is a 15-year-old single malt that echoes the design of The Rare, but there are currently 15,000 bottles in circulation of this particular edition. However, if you’re searching for an entry point, we have two suggestions.
