Soneva Secret opens in the Maldives’ Haa Dhaalu Atoll

Discover a world of unrivalled luxury and immersive nature-based experiences at Soneva Secret 2024.

Soneva is one of the world’s leading sustainable luxury resort operators. Known for its exemplary service and spectacular locations, Soneva sets the bar for barefoot luxury. This year, the brand has unveiled a new ultra-bespoke property in the Maldives’ Haa Dhaalu Atoll. Comprised of 14 beach and overwater villas accessible only by speedboat or seaplane, Soneva Secret 2024 is designed to meld into the pristine environment, blurring the line between indoors and out, and reservations are open now.

Thirty years in the making, the Soneva Secret 2024 resort concept builds upon Soneva’s experience at the forefront of exceptional hospitality and sets a new standard in personalised service. Each of the 14 villas is allocated a dedicated ‘barefoot guardian’ and ‘barefoot assistant’, along with a private chef to craft bespoke menus and unique culinary journeys, which can be enjoyed in the privacy of your villa or alfresco at the island’s most picturesque spots.

Villas at Soneva Secret 2024

There are six types of villas at Soneva Secret. Most notable are the Crusoe Villas and the Castaway Villas. Each is designed to exist peacefully within the unspoilt natural context, with direct access to the white sand beach and crystalline waters. Guests can expect to encounter manta rays, pods of curious dolphins and gentle whale sharks, along with shoals of tropical fish in the surrounding ocean. Inside, the villas boast vast master suites and an impressive sunroof that slides open to reveal sapphire skies, plus adjoining bedrooms that ensure ample space for families or additional guests.

Experiences at Soneva Secret 2024

Gourmet dining meets adventure at Soneva Secret. Out of This World is a castaway dining tower, observatory and wine cellar in the lagoon, which is reachable by zipline, and So Primitive is a toes-in-the-sand firepit dining experience. The Living Room serves as an island hub and casual eatery and is also where guests will find a library, the boutique, and Soneva’s renowned ice cream, chocolate, cheese and charcuterie rooms. Tours and experiences are personally tailored to each guest. Choose from sunset dolphin cruises, guided snorkelling with an experienced marine biologist, navigating the night skies with views of the Milky Way with the resident astronomer, and more.

Soneva Secret also has an on-site garden of herbs and vegetables used by the culinary team to create a paddock-to-plate dining experience and produces its own still and sparkling drinking water, so you can rest easy knowing your culinary journey has a minimal ecological footprint.

Sustainability at Soneva Secret 2024

Deliberately designed with minimal environmental impact, Soneva employs a range of innovative practices. The resort is predominantly constructed from FSC-certified wood sourced from fast-growing species, such as pine and cedar, and the architecture embraces the Maldivian breeze to facilitate natural ventilation in the resort’s open-air restaurants. By the end of 2024, Soneva also aims to implement a cutting-edge floating solar PV system with a 1.6 MWp capacity and a 3 MWh battery, expected to meet 90% of the resort’s energy requirements. Soneva offsets all direct and indirect carbon emissions (such as guests’ air travel), ensuring a net-zero impact on the environment.
