How to access LAX’s private, paparazzi-free terminal
From a dedicated lounge to complimentary massages and an eight-strong entourage service, the Private Suite at LAX spares no indulgence. Here are some shortcuts for those looking to skip the $4,500 annual membership fee.
You may recall reports of Los Angeles Airport’s ultra-luxe new private terminal spreading like wildfire last May. Dubbed The Private Suite, the experience includes an impressive array of glamorous features: private TSA screenings; a car-to-aircraft step-count reduced from 2,200 to just 70 steps; being a guaranteed paparazzi-free zone.
Within the terminal, each guest is treated to their own private suite with its own bathroom, food-service pantry, a two-person daybed and a runway view. Complimentary manicures, pedicures and massages are on offer, and even an on-call doctor. In order to deliver the seamless experience, a team of eight people is assigned to each guest of The Private Suite, whose duties include private escorts into the gated compound, to suites and into one of the BMW 7 Series cars, which deliver guests across the tarmac directly to the aircraft door. Guests won’t even see Team Member #8, who handles all luggage behind the scenes.
To access the full benefits of The Private Suite, guests are usually up for a membership fee of US$4,500. But we’ve found some ways around that.
1. Book the Suite to Suite package by Fairmont
Combine the perks of both the private terminal and Fairmont Miramar Hotel & Bungalows. The Suite to Suite package, announced in November last year, includes exclusive access to The Private Suite at a discounted rate. In addition to the features of the terminal, guests will receive roundtrip airport transportation to and from LAX for up to four guests, a daily breakfast credit during their stay and a reserved table at The Bungalow, the hotel’s ritzy beachside lounge. All this is in addition to the hotel’s usual perks – including complimentary BMW beach cruisers – plus the first-night rate is US$2,099, or less than half the cost of The Private Suite’s annual membership fee.
2. Fly premium with United Airlines
United has partnered with The Private Suite to offer premium customers the option to include its services when arriving to, or departing from, LAX. Our Australian readers will be pleased to learn that guests purchasing a Premium Cabin ticket fare are eligible when flying from destinations around the world, including Melbourne and Sydney. Other included destinations include New York/Newark; Aspen, Colorado; Hawaii; London Heathrow; Los Cabos, Mexico; Shanghai; Singapore; and Tokyo Narita. In addition to the features of the terminal, Premium Cabin travellers are treated to spacious seats and complimentary alcoholic beverages on board.
3. Stay at Montage Beverly Hills
Guests of Montage Beverly Hills enjoy a full year of complimentary membership and preferred rates for their first flight as part of its partnership with The Private Suite. Of course, a stay at the hotel also comes with perks such as private balconies, marble and mosaic bathrooms and complimentary champagne on arrival.
