Why Qualia is Hamilton Island’s best resort
The moment the colossal gates of adults-only Whitsundays resort qualia open, you know you have found somewhere special.
The word qualia means “a collection of deeper sensory experiences” and that is exactly what the resort delivers.
In the lobby, floor-to-ceiling glass bi-fold windows cut the stunning view of the Whitsundays into picture-postcard frames. Solid wood tables are adorned with sweeping strands of orchids and comfortable lounge chairs just beg to be used.
It’s tempting just to sit and watch the view. But qualia’s activity list is hard to beat. It includes helicopter flights over the famous Heart Reef and Whitehaven Beach, sunset walks up Hill Inlet and full-day private snorkelling and diving tours of the Great Barrier Reef.
Every single bungalow at qualia feels like a private cocoon. Although you know other villas are close by, you can not see another neighbour, no matter how hard you try.
The south-west facing Leeward Pavilions offer a peaceful outlook over the bushland and the Coral Sea from the lougeroom, the bedroom and the expansive private terrace.
Keep a lookout for the kangaroos and wallabies that like to bound across the sand flats at dusk.
The qualia bathrooms are particularly decadent with deliciously deep freestanding baths that will melt away any stress away within an instant.
The 26 Windward Pavilions have the added bonus of an infinity-edge plunge pool and northeastern views of the Coral Sea and Whitsunday Islands.
The freestanding baths offer incredible views of the ocean. If you book a Type A Pavillion you will also have access to a private outdoor shower.
The beach house at qualia is the ultimate hideaway.
Generously proportioned and designed in a light and airy open-plan style, the Beach House features a main bedroom and ensuite bathroom, a spacious entertaining area, 10-person dining room, 12-metre infinity-edge private pool, and a well-appointed separate guesthouse for friends or family.
A VIP transfer meets every qualia guest upon arrival at Hamilton Island.
The resort provides guests with an electric golf buggy that you can use to travel around the resort and around Hamilton Island. The speed is capped at 10km/hr.
Hamilton Island is the only island in the Whitsundays with its own commercial airport. You can also access the island via yacht or helicopter.
Dining at qualia
At qualia, you can sample fine dining for breakfast, lunch or dinner at the Long Pavilion and Pebble Beach restaurants.
Pool-side and in-room dining is also available.
Pebble Beach offers a modern six-course degustation dinner.
Long Pavilion’s relaxed dining experience will allow you to pick and choose from the menu as you desire.
Their flavour-focused menus feature ethically sourced and sustainable seasonal produce.
Nothing can beat seeing Whitehaven Beach and Heart Reef from a helicopter. But if you have something unique in mind, the qualia staff can organise it for you.
A cruise of the surrounding Whitsundays on the Palm Beach, a luxury 55-foot motor yacht, is a must-do.
You can snorkel off the beach at the resort, or take a charter to snorkel and dive at the Great Barrier Reef.
The qualia spa was designed to balance the synergy between mind and body. The daily yoga classes are a great way to start the day and you can wind down in the evenings with massage, scrub or facial.
