Qantas rolls out frequent flyer status extension to 2023

Qantas frequent flyers will be able to hold on to their current Silver, Gold, Platinum or Platinum One status for yet another year.

This comes as the airline rolls out its fifth status extension since the pandemic struck in March 2020.

“We know how important tier status is to our members and many of them have built it up over many years of flying with us,” says Qantas Loyalty Chief Executive Officer Olivia Wirth.

To secure your status, you’ll need to book one eligible Qantas or Jetstar flight (domestic or international) before your status end date. This will lock in a complimentary 12 month extension of your Qantas frequent flyer status.

Who qualifies for the extension?

The extension applies to all Australian and New Zealand Qantas Frequent Flyers with a status end date from 31 January to 31 December 2022 (inclusive).

You must already hold Platinum One, Platinum, Gold or Silver status.

How to lock in your Qantas Frequent Flyer extension

To lock in your status you will need to book at least one eligible Qantas or Jetstar flight. Eligible flights include:

  • any Qantas operated flight with a QF number
  • any Qantas points-earning Jetstar international booking with a JQ flight number. This includes Jetstart flights within New Zealand (JQ), Jetstar Japan (GK) and Jetstar Asia (3K). Note that Jetstar domestic flights are not eligible.

For Jan-Jun 2022 members, you must book your eligible flight between 11 August 2021 and your current status end date. For Jul-Dec 2022 members, you must book your eligible flight between 28 February 2022 and your current status end date.

If you’re eligible for all of the above then you just have one thing left to do. Don’t cancel your booking.

If you do cancel you will not receive your status extension. However if Qantas cancels your flight for operational reasons, you will still be eligible for the extension without further action.

How does the 2022-23 Status Credit Rollover work?

To be eligible for the Status Credit Rollover offer you’ll also need to book an eligible Qantas flight.

Essentially if you’re eligible for the above Status Extension you will automatically get the Status Credit Rollover.

You can rollover all eligible Status Credits earned in your membership year. A cap of 40% of the Status Credits to retain your tier applies.
