Sleep and dine among the vines
Victoria’s Yarra Valley has always been a hotspot for wine lovers. Now, one of its premier wineries, Seville Estate, is offering guests the option of staying in gourmet style.
Named the 2019 Winery of the Year at the Halliday Wine Companion Awards (by Australia’s leading wine expert, James Halliday) Seville Estate has two new accommodation options: one perfect for groups and special events such as weddings, and the other ideal for couples looking for a gourmet getaway.
The original homestead, built by Dr Peter McMahon and his wife, Margret, in 1975, has recently been gorgeously restored by their grandson and chief winemaker, Dylan. The Seville Homestead is now a contemporary space for groups of up to eight with a pool, native garden and four bedrooms. Lovers of great design are certain to swoon over the handcrafted tables and cabinetry.
Couples seeking a getaway for two can enjoy the self-contained Vineyard Apartments. At Seville Estate you’ll find three of the double-storey, loft-style apartments offering a king-size bed, kitchen and private balcony that looks out over the vineyards and offers fresh air and sightings of local wildlife.
While both options for accommodation include access to your own kitchen (convenient, with the abundance of farmgate and fresh produce available nearby), there’ll be no need for room service with the cellar door and restaurant on site.
The menu is always changing to reflect what’s seasonal and readily available from the local producers near the winery. It’s the perfect place to sit back, enjoy freshly baked bread, locally sourced fare and some seriously spectacular views of the upper Yarra Valley with an award-winning glass of wine in hand.
While visiting, a cellar door tasting is a must and can be done in a group environment on a walk-in basis, or booked as a private tasting experience with a member of Seville Estate’s wine team. It’s also worth noting that all wines at Seville estate are rated 94 points or more by James Halliday, so you know you’re in for a good drop. Master classes can also be booked in advance and include a generous sampling from the kitchen; you can find upcoming dates on the Seville Estate website.
