The Eileen Hardy range showcases the pinnacle of Hardys’ winemaking philosophy and represents the significance and prestige of this incredible winemaking family. Widely regarded as the first lady of Australian wine, Eileen played a pivotal role to the enduring success of Hardys, and this wine is a tribute to her inspiring dedication.

As one of Australia’s most-loved Chardonnays, the 2017 Eileen Hardy Chardonnay exemplifies the very best cool-climate expression of the varietal. Intricate, elegant and full of flavour, this wine preserves the essential characteristics of the fruit in the vineyard to create the highest quality blend from Tasmania and Yarra Valley sub-regions.

The 2016 Eileen Hardy Shiraz is a truly exemplary McLaren Vale Shiraz and notably one of Australia’s most awarded wines, having won the Jimmy Watson trophy in 1996 for the 1995 vintage and recognised by the prestigious Langton’s Classification as ‘Excellent’. This is a powerful and generous wine with highly complex aromas, crafted from premium fruit parcels handpicked from McLaren Vale’s finest vineyards.

Hardys Chief Winemaker Paul Lapsley explains, “Eileen Hardy is a very special range and honours the positive impact the Hardy family has had on the Australian wine industry. This year’s vintage releases are extraordinary wines that continue to uphold the quality and heritage of the Hardys brand. Vintage 2016 was outstanding in the McLaren Vale region and the 2016 Eileen Hardy Shiraz is a shining reflection of this, while the 2017 Eileen Hardy Chardonnay upholds it position amongst the finest Chardonnays in the country, with its richness, power and elegance.”

HRB New Vintage Releases

The Hardys HRB range is unique because the wines are made by blending grapes with different characteristics and from different regions. Thomas Hardy first started these regional blends in 1865 and they are still used by the winemaking team today, designed to complement and enhance the qualities of each region.

The 2018 HRB Clare Valley Tasmania Riesling combines the fine lemon/lime and mineral tightness of Clare Valley fruit with the expressive stone fruit flavours of Tasmania. It is a beautifully balanced and vibrant wine, bursting with intense citrus fruit flavours complemented by elevated mineral characters and a lingering finish.

Also hailing from vintage 2018 is the latest release HRB Yarra Valley Tasmania Pinot Noir, an enticing, highly aromatic wine full of red berry fruit and spice. This Pinot Noir combines grapes from the Yarra Valley and Tasmania using both old and new world winemaking techniques to produce a palate of finesse and balance, and soft and juicy fruit flavours.

Paul Lapsley continues, “Keeping Thomas Hardy’s pioneering spirit alive, the HRB range consists of individual expressions of Australia’s finest wine regions and the varietals that are synonymous with these landscapes. Each wine challenges the boundaries of viticulture whilst maintaining the high quality for which Hardys is renowned.”

The Eileen Hardy and HRB new vintage releases are available from November 2019 from major retailers nationally.
