For travellers who seek the finest that the world has to offer

The first luxury resort on Folegandros is set to open this May

Step off the beaten path and discover the lesser-known Greek island of Folegandros at Gundari, a new five-star boutique resort with exquisite interior design.

Folegandros is one of the best-kept secrets in the Cyclades. Located between Paros and Santorini, this Greek island boasts rugged natural beauty and rich authenticity. The coastline is steep and dramatic, the rocky beaches are pristine and the water is a mesmerizing shade of aquamarine. Rarely visited by foreign tourists, Folegandros is a laid-back and crowd-free Aegean gem with traditional villages, picturesque paths and panoramic sunset views. From May 2024, travellers will be able to explore this hidden treasure from the comfort of Gundari, a five-star luxury resort on the southeastern coast of the island.

Get to know Gundari, the first luxury resort on Folegandros

Set within a wildlife nature reserve close to Chora – the town centre of Folegandros – Gundari will open with 27 bio-climatic suites and villas, all of which have private, solar-heated infinity pools. Communal spaces within the resort include a cliff-edge pool with a swim-up cocktail bar, a large gym and an organic farm.

Architecture & design

The architecture and interior design have been overseen by Athens-based studio Block722, which has used natural materials and a neutral palette to create a contemporary aesthetic that remains true to Cycladic style. Stone, timber and marble feature prominently throughout the resort, while woven details, soft upholstery and linen are used across the furnishings.

Building a sustainable future

Preserving the island’s tranquillity and environment is a high priority for Gundari founder and CEO Ricardo Larriera. Before the construction of Gundari began, more than 600 native seedlings were collected from the site and preserved. Upon completion of the property, the seedlings were returned to regenerate the land. The rock that appears throughout the property was all excavated on site, and Larriera has established the Gundari Eleonora’s Falcon conservation project to protect the island’s native species and regenerate the local population to healthy levels. Gundari is also a member of EarthCheck Certified, the world’s leading science-based environmental certification and benchmarking program for the tourism industry.

Dining at Gundari

Greece’s first Michelin-starred chef, Lefteris Lazarou, will curate the gastronomic offerings at Gundari. Guests can choose from three dining spaces and two bars, of which Orizon is the signature dining venue. Seasonal ingredients harvested from the on-site farm form the base of the menu, which celebrates traditional Greek cuisine and natural offerings from land and sea.

The spa at Gundari

Set beneath the resort in a soothing subterranean space will be the spa, a therapeutic destination that administers treatments inspired by Greek rituals, native herbs and tonics. The spa will be a space for guests to slip into deep relaxation with sound baths and energy healing. Yoga and meditation workshops will be hosted by a curated selection of visiting wellness practitioners.
