Absolutely perfect in every detail. Wished we had stayed longer and could happily have not left the house at all though the surrounding cafes and sites were very tempting too!

Setting Peaceful bay in Southern Tasmania
Eclectic luxury in a serene country retreat

Perfectly placed above lovely Cygnet Bay, two exquisite self-catering houses await you in Southern Tasmania.

Frenchman’s River is an 81-hectare working cattle property near Cygnet in the beautiful Huon Valley.

Together, television producer and novelist Posie Graeme-Evans and designer Andrew Blaxland have created two beautiful self-catering houses for you to stay in on their farm.

The two homes will delight travellers who cherish magnificent views, bespoke luxury and complete privacy (as well as being spoiled by their hosts).

Stylish, comfortable and private, take in views of water, mountain, sky and stars as you retreat from the world.

Beauty, luxury and serenity is the retreat’s motto and that’s what the owners hope their guests enjoy when they stay at Frenchman’s River.

The fridge and pantry are generously stocked with local, fresh, seasonal produce plus an array of breakfast cereals, rice, oils, flours, sugars, jams, local honey, sauces, herbs (fresh and dried) and spices; much more than just the basics.

And, you'll also find a bottle of regional wine (or Tasmanian bubbles), Tasmanian butter, artisanal bread, award-winning bacon, very local milk, regional cheeses and unexpected treats waiting for you, plus a complimentary decanter of port on the mantlepiece. And Tim Tams!

Pretty roads wander off in all directions, and tucked away you'll come across bays, perfect unspoiled beaches, vineyards, organic farms – often with seasonal farm-gate sales – and friendly locals (though the wallabies, Tasmanian devils, bettongs, spotted quolls and potoroos can be a bit shy; they wake up when you go to sleep).
