For travellers who seek the finest that the world has to offer

The best spa retreats in Innsbruck

The peaks of the Austrian Alps are speckled with hidden resorts and chalets offering some of the world’s best, unique spa and treatment facilities. In and around Innsbruck Amelia Hungerford finds that you’re certain to discover a relaxing holiday option to suit you, and you’ll leave feeling refreshed and rejuvenated.

Charming Innsbruck is not only well known for its proximity to some of Europe’s best snow, but also for soothing jangled nerves, easing aching bones and detoxing tired bodies. Nestled amongst the mountains and chalets are one-of-a-kind spas with atmospheres to suit everyone – if your a luxury minimalist try Parkhotel Igls, or if your taste is more on the opulent side, the Alpenresort Schwarz is for you. But when all you crave is seclusion and exclusivity, the elegant and sophisticated Schloss Igls is perfect.

Park Igls

Simplicity is key at this multi-award-winning property, but its unfussy design certainly doesn’t mean less. The many Modern Mayr treatments on offer ease the body while crystalline panoramas of the mountains soothe the soul. Treatments range from gentle medical applications to intensive therapies, but there is always time to enjoy other activities such as a quiet book in the library.

The Modern Mayr Medicine philosophy pioneered at Parkhotel Igls focuses on detoxifying the digestive system as a path to well being. Dietary guidance is offered; Chef Markus Sorg uses local organic ingredients to prove a healthy diet can also be delicious. Health treatments are all balanced with sleep pattern analysis, and physical exercise is also a priority. You can work-out accompanied by your personal trainer, in group classes such as yoga, aqua aerobics or Pilates, or you may prefer a simple walk to breathe in the crisp Austrian air. The resort also boasts a modern spa complete with bio sauna, Finnish sauna and infrared cabin for you to take advantage of.

Schloss Igls

If detoxing isn’t on your agenda, Schloss Igls offers a completely different interpretation of ‘retreat’. The word ‘schloss’ means ‘castle’ and a castle is what this charmingly traditional property is. After operating as a five-star hotel for over 40 years, it was reopened in 2012 by new owners, Hans and Pia van Eenennaam-Beck, as a luxury establishment available for exclusive use only. The ‘schloss’ sits perched above the city of Innsbruck, and features 18 rooms and suites as well as the ‘Owner’s Residence’ on the ground floor. The property is surrounded by an astonishing 5000 square metres of parklands and can sleep up to 33 guests.

Residents can enjoy the pool and sauna facilities, indulge in a massage or order a personalised culinary delight – either dine privately in the Blue salon with only your nearest and dearest, or be king of the castle and arrange a spectacular gastronomic Tyrolean dinner for up to 50 guests. Either way, you’ll be satisfied.
