Museum of Bags and Purses
The origin of the Tassen Museum of Bags and Purses is a quaint one, beginning with a leather handbag found by Heinz and Hendrikje Ivo, decorated with tortoise-shell cover plates. The bag, it was discovered, was created in the 1820s, and so began an obsession that would see the pair collect over 5000 bags and matching accessories, dated within a 500-year period. Lovers of leather and embellishments take note, for this is the largest museum of bags and purses in the world. Running until 3 May 2015 is ‘Happy Birthday Chanel! 60 Years of the 2.55’ an exhibition dedicated to a singular handbag style and its influence on fashion since its release.
